Star Wars Galaxies: GCC Review

| 2 Aug 2003 01:46

Game Club Central has posted thier review of Star Wars Galaxies. Heres a piece from it!

At first blush Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided, the new MMORPG from Sony and LucasArts set in Lucas' oft-revisited "Star Wars" universe, almost has it all. The character generation system is simply without equal, with an avatar so customizable that its creation is almost a game in itself. A custom graphics engine developed solely for this project is stuffed with so much eye-candy that it feels like it would be more at home in a good FPS than an RPG. Add in familiar locations like Tatooine, Naboo and Endor, and Galaxies dazzles new users with the illusion that they, too, will finally be part of the magic they witnessed on the silver screen all those years ago.

Unfortunately, after a scant few hours of gameplay the dazzle quickly wears off and the reality becomes as painful as the first moment Jar-Jar Binks appeared on screen in "The Phantom Menace". Despite the settings, the wonderful character animations and even John Williams' epic score accompanying the player's every move, Star Wars Galaxies just isn't all that much fun to play.
