Electronic Arts Embraces Free To Play Games

Electronic Arts today unveiled Battlefield Heroes, an upcoming Team Fortress-style shooter set in the popular Battlefield IP. More importantly, it marks their first foray into alternative business models as they unveil their new "play 4 free" model (not to be confused with the "free 2 play" model that MMO companies have been using for years). Nonetheless, the fact that EA would put one of their top IPs out as a trial balloon in the free game space, shows how real that model has become.
