IGN has a hands on preview of Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning. Experiencing the game world as, to use their phrase, a "poncy elf", here's some of what they discovered:
While we're talking about character abilities, we might as well mention the new renown system. This is another long-term mechanic that allows players to invest points and ranks acquired in the RVR portion of the game to buy new tactics and passive ability boosts. You might want to purchase a bonus to your damage versus dwarves, or a bonus to the gold you get from looting in PVP encounters, or you might even increase the renown that you earn in city encounters. You can also buy increases to your abilities, improving your ability to dodge, score criticals or penetrate armor. There are even factional-based titles that help identify who you are and what you're capable of.
We had a tremendous amount of fun exploring the new additions to Warhammer Online, both in terms of experiencing the game world firsthand and in terms of talking to the designers about the underlying philosophy behind it all. We'll be back again tomorrow with an interview with Mythic's resident psychotic prophet Paul Barnett and next week with detailed information on more high-level content.
It's a huge article with tons of screens so be sure to check it out if you're looking forward to Age of Reckoning!
