Pirates of the Burning Sea Wrap Report

RPG Vault is featuring a 'wrap report' with PotBS developers about their successes and failures and lessons learned since the game's debut in January. Here's a snippet:

Players behaved very, very differently from beta, both in the percentage of time they spent on the game, and in the places where they spent their time, which meant our numbers were dramatically off. In an interconnected game like Pirates, that's a real problem. We've spent the last milestone working on this, and are getting ready to roll out a solution.

Gold spammers. We figured they wouldn't be such a problem for us because the design of our economy means generating gold requires playing the economy for real, which doesn't break it. But what about the spam in national chat... the endless, constant spam? Oh yeah, that. We've wound up spending an undue amount of customer support time banning gold spammers, and code support to minimize their effect. Honestly, I'd rather just pay protection money; it'd be cheaper than what we're spending trying to deal with it.
