After a short drought, RPG Vault has finally released the next Horizons Developer Journal. The next installment focuses on everyone's favorite topic - beta! In it, Creative Director David Bowman lets us in on what's going on with the beta process currently, as well as giving us a short history lesson on the development of Horizons.
We are still in Beta III, which has no set end date; it has objectives that must be reached before we move on. We recently had a great weekend test that reached hundreds of concurrent connections with good server performance. We've made adjustments that we believe will now require thousands of concurrent connections to break. That's the key now, loading the servers until we see what does break them. We know they will break. There will always be a finite limit to the number of concurrent connections; we just need to know what that limit is and make sure that it is higher than our goal as a company and for the purposes of fun gameplay. We need to break the servers in stages, thus we are controlling the possible number of connections by adding new participants in sets. We still have thousands more to add, so don't give up if you are looking forward to participating.
