Distant Sands by Kromag has won the fanStory.com Story of the Month voting. It is the first Asheron's Call winner since January's hugely popular Virtually Real. By only a couple votes it beat a story about a bard and the heroes he met.
In the winning story a veteran warrior and his apprentice enter a tavern unaware that danger lurks around the corner.
An Excerpt:
"Master, was it truly necessary to enter this pathetic hovel? It smells of commoner ale, and I doubt if we shall find anything more interesting here then a report on the desert dune conditions."
"Heh," The blonde haired man's grim expression faded, and he glanced down at his apprentice with fondness. "Young Alerik, in some ways you are the least important man in this inn. When will you learn that all men have a role to play in life, and that even though they may not play it on as grand a stage, or in so magnificent of settings as we are able to, their role can be vitally important."
