Asherons Call: Speedhack and Duping Q&A

| 26 Aug 2003 01:43

I'm telling you, Ibn doesn't eat. He's just sitting there at his computer posting notices for us.

[i]Q: Something happened once and I ended up duping an item accidentally! Will I get banned?
A:
Our logs allow us to see what items were duped. If we see that, once in your life, you duped everything in your inventory including your pants and a piece of cheese, you are not likely to be banned.

However, if on more than one occasion, you duped two dozen singularity keys and a set of greater shadow armor...

Q: Won't turning on speedhack detection increase lag?
A:
Technically speaking, we never turned detection OFF, we only turned off automatic enforcement. Speedhack detection has been running on the servers since it was first introduced, we have been handling enforcement manually. The only thing we are changing is automatic enforcement, so server lag should not increase.

Q: Aren't you being too lenient with speedhack users?
A:
We don't think so, and here's why: Speedhack users will not even have the opportunity to take advantage of the program before they are kicked from the server. In our tests, the server detected speedhack and kicked or banned the account before the character finished logging into the world. So this is not a matter of a speedhack user running around in-game for a while and eventually getting banned... this is someone getting kicked out of the game IMMEDIATELY and only receiving bans if he or she continues to attempt to use the program.
