Asherons Call: That Q&A Thing

| 27 Aug 2003 19:16

Macakebin states: We should be able to dye our weapons. I just bought a bow and it is a sickly grey color - would love to change to color
Scenario responds: Weapons, wands, and shields are not currently set up to be made dyeable. They do not have the require palettes or the files needed to associate the palettes with the dye color. And there are quite a few weapons, wands, and shields out there. Dyeable trim is not currently feasible with exisiting Armor Types as they were not developed with Dyeable Trim in mind. Dyeing was originally made with only Armors in mind. If weapons were to be made dyeable, new risks would have to be implemented regarding success or failure of applying the dye on a weapon/wand.

z_athros asks: Can coifs and Baighas get an art upgrade?
Scenario: Since we are rapidly approaching the climax of our story, things I would like to get done as far as art work upgrades go have to take the back burner where new content is concerned. I am trying to get some things upgraded as time allows, but it will overall be easiest for me once this storyline ends and we go into the prep time for our next story arc.

Gdinero_FF asks: Bug with dyeing olthoi armor? I dyed a couple of pieces of my olthoi armor, using dark blue then dark green, and the only change I noticed was in the color of the icon. I tried wearing it with and without underclothes. Is there something I'm missing here?
Scenario: The Trim/Spikes of the Olthoi Armor are the only parts that are effected by dye colors. The "leather" regions of the armor take on the color of the shirt you are wearing. I tested dyes after I read your post, and everything works according to design.
Scenario again later: With the introduction of the Olthoi Armor, I introduced a facet to armor that has not been seen before. This facet being gauntlets and sollerets with dyeable trims. In order to make this happen, I bound the dyeable regions of the gauntlet and solleret textures to the trim color that chest armor is bound to as well. This resulted in a side effect. If you are wearing Olthoi Gauntlets or Olthoi Sollerets, the trim colors on your chest armor (Veins on Celdon or the Olthoi BP, for example) will take the color of the gauntlets for their own. This is not the effect I had intended (as it effects all chest armor, not just the Olthoi Armor) and it is something I will look into fixing for September's prop. Until then, think of it as a challenge in color coordination. I apologize for any misinformation I gave.

Valajik asks: Firstly, when the skill credits to train and spec Missile Defense and Alchemy was lowered, players were refunded skill credits. Is it in the current tech to spend skill credits? As in reverse the process? I'm been wondering this for a while now...

Secondly, Is it in current tech to change wield requirements on weapons that are loot generated? I remember when bows, Xbows, and atlatls were given higher mods and wield reqs, there were the 250 wield, 130% mod bows, (And 150% for Xbows I believe...) When the wield reqs were further increased to 290 weild, the 250 req bows remained the same. Was that because it was an act of goodwill or was it because it wasn't in current tech to change all of these weapons? If you were to change these weapons, would you have to have, say, changed each individual weapon that was generated?

Thirdly and Lastly, This is more of a Lore question... According to Stormwaltz and the info on CoD about the Isparians, there are more than just the Aluvians, Gharun'dim and Sho. There are the Silverans, Rouleans, Viamonts, Milanto, and the other guys who are like the Mongols. Is there a reason that only the Aluvian, Gharu and Sho are on Dereth? Has there ever been thought on implementing either as a playable 'race' or just as characters in the storyline, (ala Elsya and others) who are Roulean, Milanto and such? (Nuhmirdira always seemed like she was Milanto to me... What with the dark rituals and all...)
Ibn_Turbine: 1) As in make a skill cost MORE than it currently does? Yeah... yeah we could probably do that. But I doubt we ever would.

2) No, it can't be done in current tech.

3) I'm not sure if there's a lore reason why the portals only show up in the Sho, Aluvian, and Gharu'n lands on Ispar. Let me check with the lore guys (Orion and Keth) and get back to you.

Faster answer than I expected: From Keth: ...Aluvia is where the Empyreans visited, and when the portals went a bit wonky they seemed to start appearing to the south, but not to the East or West, where other countries reside.

harbringer_of_sorrow asks: So are the stamps still available from the harbinger quest?
srand: The stamp reward was inadvertantly removed from the Emissary. It will be restored, most likely in the September update.

Grrr the Mad asks: I thought that attack height for archers didn't affect where you hit a creature, but a arrow's (any missile for that matter) trajectory?
Ibn: I checked on this... if you set to attack high, but the shot you fire comes in at the creature's feet, that counts as attacking low for the purposes of the defense modifier.

1Mageman asks: Will we be able to make Barbed Spikes in the future?
Ibn: Possibly. No immediate plans, but it's solely a dev resource issue I believe.

Fayebaby asks: s it possible to make a graphic that fits on a hook that includes a whole bunch of items, like a table with stuff on it and chairs?
Ibn: Is it possible? Yes. But we would need to create and test different versions for each possible room in each possible housing type. So it would be an incredible amount of work, probably more work than would be worth the end result.
