Horizons: Art is in the Eye of the Beholder

When was the last time you were hyped up on the latest and greatest game? Did you ever stop to think what got you so hyped up about it? For most people, the answer to that integral question is, the graphics. I know that's one of the greatest factors for me when looking at a new game... it's prettiness factor.

Cerebus has just released his latest installment of his column, Hurm...

I chuckle a bit when looking at EQ2 promotional images. Aren't they the most gorgeous things you've ever seen? The polygon count on that female elf's armor is probably higher than the entire town of Cragstone in AC2. That character in game likely causes enough video lag to take out a block of high powered PC's. Will it sell copies of EQ2? Surely! Will people actually see the armor in that much detail while playing? Most likely not.
