Star Wars Galaxies: SWG Reviewed in the October Edition of PC Gamer

| 28 Aug 2003 03:22

Not the most flattering of reviews, but I've also read worse. 5 members of the PCGamer team played the game to build this review. As a negative it's got this to say:

If decapitating Sormtroopers with a lightsaber before hopping into your landspeeder and racing to your X-Wing Fighter for an interstellar dogfight is your ideal Star Wars game, then SWG: An Empire divided is not the game you're looking for. Instead of flashy heroics, you get the chance to roleplay the galaxy's more ordinary Joes. It's a design decision destined to alienate gamers who were hoping to demonstrate their trench-navigating prowess to their Force-deficient-peers - but even so, Galaxies is largely successful in nourishing your inner Wookie.

Don't worry. Not all was bad. They did play for quite a while and still do. On the flip side, they had some very nice things to say as well:

But, what Galaxies does provide is a convincing virtual world, replete with a rudimentary player-driven economy, hundreds of interactive items, and hordes of non-traditional professions to pursue. Whether you enjoy it will depend mainly on how much you appreciate these "quieter" features.

It's a solid revue with a lot more to offer. You'll have to run down to buy a copy though - if I print anymore here they may slap the cuffs on me. *grins*
