Nubak of MT brings us the first chapter of what is sure to be a gripping story of a mysterious plague spreading through the desert. Ushad is struggling to eke out a living in Samsur, not wanting to leave all that he has worked so hard for, yet wistfully dreaming of yesteryear. Suddenly, a tragedy befalls his family.
Ushad rushed out the door of his shop with one last look at his pale and disheveled son, and prayed the rumors had been false. He hoped the enigmatic arcanor that had passed through not three days prior had been wrong. He had spoken of a vile illness that was traveling across the desert, from town to town and settlement to settlement, for which there was no known cure, and very often fatal. What his son had spoken, through the coughing, were the very symptoms the arcanor had described. Even the old arcanor had seemed puzzled and vaguely disturbed even as he related it to Ushad. He ran through the afternoon heat puzzling over the name of the arcanor, for if his wife truly had this illness, he was willing to bet that the mysterious stranger held the answers, or maybe the questions that needed answering.
Will the arcanor's predictions prove fatal? Will there be A Death in the Desert?
