Newsletter Discussion: Indie & Boutique MMOGs?

We all know the big games - your WoWs, your LotROs... but what about the little guys? This week, we'd like to know:

What smaller, less-known MMOGs have you tried and really liked in the past?

Darkfall Online. Really very disappointing. Early in their development they promised SO MUCH and delivered SO LITTLE.

What has been delivered is a quake fans' dream. Free Form shooting without targeting your opponents and a real lack of game play. Want a huge map where you're basically playing quake/doom with swords/spells/arrows - this is the game for you.

I think developers forget that many people who play MMO's are not 15 or 16. And leading up to a games' release they should really manage expectations and target their audience appropriately. And even saying that, I'm not entirely sure what audience they are trying to target with this game. I can't say too many people have so much time to get good at what basically has turned into an mmo-shooter.

AoC was little better, there was a huge amount of missing/shoddy gameplay there also. I see I now have a 14 day free re-trial - I guess after launch is not the time to be saying how great it is. Have your game release great! The best way to have people saying good things about it is from day 1!

Despite not running as smooth as the larger MMORPG's I play, Anarchy Online remains fun and engaging, and I especially dig the game's music and architecture.
