In the heyday of this world, before the first coming of the Olthoi, the Yalain considered themselves masters of this land. Though they have long since been removed from their lofty pedestal by the blight of the Olthoi, the crumbling remains of their proudest works and achievements remain for the taking. This has led to our scholars and historians devoting their lives to the attempt to decipher the artefacts discovered by our explorers - to be trumped on more than one occasion by the application of "brute force and ignorance" by the adventurer caste. By dint of a combination of brains and brawn, therefore, we have been successful in slowly reclaiming this world and its lost technology for ourselves.

This is a slow process, however, and despite our best efforts, we have oft found the way barred by either the denizens of this land or by those magics we cannot yet fully understand. The skills of the Planar Mage, for example, are known to a scant few Isparians, blocking our access to the other continents and islands of this world. When a route is opened by other means, however, we are quick to pounce upon it - for good or ill.

Such a route was recently opened by the Yalaini mage Asheron, in the form of a portal to his ancestral home, the Island of Knorr. The Arcanum was quick to pounce upon this first access to the Olthoi-infested part of Auberean, their scouts discovering both a treasure trove of ancient literature in the halls of the Knorr Lyceum, and the anticipated Olthoi Horde, more powerful than any seen sine the days of our slavery.

It would seem that with the appropriate bribery, it has been possible for the common Isparian to follow in the footsteps of the Arcanum, and visit Asheron's long-abandoned school for themselves. Rumour tells of uncounted strange artefacts and arcane items hidden in the vaults of Knorr, ripe for the taking by any strong enough to brave the wrath of the Olthoi.

Our own David ibn Jensen has made such a perilous trip, and returned to speak his tale, which has now been entered into the pages of our Quest Compendium. He speaks of a more powerful variant of the Exarch and Thaumaturgic Plate found in the Ishilai Lyceum, and those with an interest in such coverings may find a visit to the Seat of Knorr both invigorating and profitable...
