Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment announced that their multi-player FPS game "Stargate Resistance" was sold to Fresh Start studio for $100K, as the company continues to deal with its bankruptcy and financial issues.
Gamasutra's Leigh Alexander detailed the new deal:
The company says Fresh Start Studio, which has now assumed support and operating costs for Stargate Resistance, was itself established by "concerned shareholders" of Cheyenne Mountain who "have taken this step in an effort to preserve the game and prevent it from going offline because they felt there was no other alternative." Fresh Start paid Cheyenne Mountain $100,000 for the game, and put $200,000 towards its development, the company said.
In addition to the Chapter 11 filing last February, the company still owes $35,000 in back rent, at least $2 million to creditors, $1.1 million in unpaid wages to its employees since March 2009, plus a potential $10.1 million in for five ongoing lawsuits.
Despite all the overwhelming issues, the official forums and test server are still beating while the remaining developers continue to push new content. The latest forum post from FireSky staffer "joae996" talks about a new map and an ongoing relocation to an ex-military bunker (out of all places!):
Just a quickie announcement about the new map. It's on test, now, and scheduled in the next patch. We HOPE to have that patch out to Steam for their build by the end of the week, but we are moving offices next week, which as you can imagine is like dropping a nuclear bomb in anyone's schedule ;-).
The good news is, our servers will be consolidated in a new, faster facility (it might interest you to know it's an old military bunker ;-). This is step 1 toward European servers, btw.
So, our testers will be hammering away at the new map all week, and we'll get it out ASAP. The goal was before the end of March, but given our move, I think it will more likely be early April.
Lined up behind this are the first of our new high rez player models, new weapons, and more. All unlockable content (maps, of course, don't require unlocks). There are some cool chat enhancements in the patch following the map, too.
When we are done unpacking at our new base, we'll start posting screenshots of some of the new goodies.
See you on the other side.
Stargate Worlds eventual fate is still hazy, even with the shutdown and closing reports, and as they say, it ain't over until the fat lady sings! Share your thoughts.
