F.E.A.R. 3 is a survival horror first-person shooter set in the city of Fairport. Gameplay includes a cover system improved from F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin as well as co-operative play. In the campaign, players may take the role of either Point Man or Paxton Fettel, antagonistic brothers and the sons of a psychically powerful and disturbed woman named Alma whose power is threatening the city. They must contend with the F.E.A.R. squad, who is set on stopping Alma, and Armacham's security forces, who are trying to erase evidence of previous events. Several co-operative and competitive multiplayer modes include "F*cking Run," a mode where players work together to escape, and "Soul King," a mode where players possess enemies to kill each other and collect souls. F.E.A.R. 3 takes place nine months after the F.E.A.R. team ravaged the city and its inhabitants in an effort to kill Paxton Fettel.
