L.A. Noire is a detective adventure game set in 1947 in Los Angeles. Gameplay combines exploration and clue-seeking with shooter elements and interrogation sequences. Players take the role of Cole Phelps, a new cop in the city, as he takes on various cases from traffic to homicide. Each case is a self-contained chapter and has multiple outcomes depending on the players' ability and actions. In order to allow players to judge whether subjects are lying in the interrogation sequences, a technology called MotionScan is used to capture actors' facial expressions. Several pre-order bonuses are available, including new cases, depending on retailer. L.A. Noire is the first videogame to be shown at the Tribeca Film Festival.
